Biography
A California Native, Prof. Thornburg was also raised in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico before moving to Alaska where he received his Accounting Degree (1982) and CPA license (1986). He practiced extensively in public accounting all along the west coast of the United States before obtaining his masters degree (2000) and PhD (2005) from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He spent the next thirteen years at Washington State University in Pullman and the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse before moving to Wenzhou-Kean University in 2018 with his wife, a Chinese national, and their preteen daughter.
Research interests
Dr. Thornburg’s research interests have been critically focused on the role of accounting in US politics, including the interplay between standard setters, large firm oligopolies and corporate interests and their influence over US regulatory institutions.
