Biography

Dr. Yulun Ma obtained a bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration from the University of Tilburg (2017) and a master’s degree in Business Administration (specialized in digital business) from the University of Amsterdam (2018). He is sponsored by China Scholarship Council and currently pursuing his PhD degree in International Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He enjoys bringing the insights of his research to his classroom and companies.

His research focuses on trying to understand how companies transform themselves in an increasingly global and digital world. His research is published in top academic outlets such as Management and Organization Review and presented in top international management conferences, including AOM and EURAM. He was also invited by King’s College London to present his recent works at SIME Seminar.

Research Interests

Dr. Ma has broad research interests across fields like IB and strategy, leadership, technology, and entrepreneurship, but mostly focuses on 1) the platform and ecosystem-based global competition strategy (for both organizational and product levels) in the digital environment; 2) conventional firm’s transformation in the digital and global world; 3) the knowledge management and catch-up strategy for MNEs from emerging economies. He is majorly using quantitative methods, especially machine learning techniques for his papers but he is also familiar with qualitative methods (e.g., interview and ethnography).
