Admission Requirements

1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
*Applicants, if not graduated from U.S. institutions, must submit a course-by-course evaluation of their official university transcript by National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES) (http://www.naces.org), such as the International Education Evaluation (IEE) or World Education Services (WES) (need to choose course-by-course evaluation).

2. Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher (lower GPAs will be considered based on strength of overall application)

3. Submit GMAT or GRE test scores (optional)

4. Two letters of recommendation

5. Professional Resume/CV

6. Personal essay explaining candidate’s interest in the program

7. Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score reports of test taken within the past two years of application

Program Description

The College of Business and Public Management is an AACSB-accredited business school. As a newly established program, The M.S. in Accounting provides students with the specialized knowledge in accounting, taxation, and auditing that enables them to enter or advance their accounting careers in the profession of public accountancy or managerial positions in industry, government and not-for-profit organizations. All the courses delivered in our program are conducted by faculty who are eager to share the knowledge from their advanced research or professional experiences from the accounting industry, ultimately transforming our graduates into business elites with global insight. The program extends the invitation to both accounting and non-accounting majored students to apply, with rigorous curriculum that combines professional accounting knowledge and skills for problem solving. All classes are taught in English with a one-year study period to graduate.

Students must choose a minimum of one graduate accounting course. The remaining two courses are to be chosen at the graduate level from Accounting, Global MBA, Management Science, Marketing, Finance or Economics. 9

*Students with fewer than two undergraduate courses in Accounting are required to take ACCT 5001 Financial Accounting & Reporting I and ACCT 5002 Financial Accounting & Report Concept II (Credits do not count towards program requirements).

After a graduate student attempts six (6) total graduate credits as a matriculated student, a 3.0 cumulative GPA must be achieved. Failure to meet this minimum may result in the student being placed on Academic Probation. Upon completion of twelve (12) attempted graduate credits, if a student fails to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0, the student may be academically dismissed from the University at the discretion of the program/department. If a student who is on Academic Probation achieves a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, they will be removed from Academic Probation. However, if at any time during subsequent semesters the student falls below a cumulative 3.0 GPA, they will be academically dismissed from the University.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete 30 credit hours, including seven required core courses, plus three elective courses, one of which must be in accounting, and the other two chosen from accounting or business-related disciplines. Students with a grade point average (GPA) no less than 3.0 will be conferred the Accounting (M.S.) degree of Kean University.
