Biography

Shiyuan (Eric) Liu is an assistant professor in information system management at Wenzhou-Kean University and an affiliated researcher with the Stockholm School of Economics and the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation. He obtained his Ph.D. from Warwick Business School, UK. Prior to that, he received his Bachelor’s from the University of Nottingham and M.Sc. from the University of Warwick in the UK.

His research interests relate broadly to digital innovation, transformation, and entrepreneurship. His current projects concern how digital ventures grow and compete in contemporary platform-based markets (e.g., complementor growth in platform ecosystems). Recent projects at post-doc concern how industrial firms (e.g., OEMs) navigate their digital transformation journey in autonomous transport markets through developing a ‘digital first’ approach. He is open to and has applied both qualitative and computational approaches, such as process tracing, archival studies, text mining, and applied econometrics, to leverage unprecedented amounts and types of digital trace data in studying contemporary digital phenomena.

His research has appeared at major conferences such as the Academy of Management (AOM), the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS), and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS). He served as an editorial board member for the digital repository of the AIS special interest group on Digital Innovation, Transformation, and Entrepreneurship (SIGDITE). He also served as a review coordinator for ICIS 2023.
